The first time I knew about Captain Hiroshi was two years ago.I joined 2008 Yacht Regatta from Keelong Taiwan to Ishigaki Japan.I was very impressed by Yaima's nimble movement on the sea and the color of the uniforms sailors wore---orange! Color orange is warm and bright.I like orange a lot.I guessed they must be some passionate Japanese sailors.
Then I met Chika,a beautiful and gentle female sailor from Yaima.She was the one I could talk about everything in Ishigaki.We talked about each other's Captain and trips on boat.Our captains were both strict to male crews but nice to female ones.I met Captain Hiroshi on sailors dinner party.He was in bright orange with a big smile on his face couse his yacht got good grades in this sailing race.
At that time,Captain Hiroshi had already planed his sailing trips around the world.It was his dream since he was a university student.Captain Hiroshi was born in Hokkaido,the north of Japan.He grew up on a farm far from the sea.One time ,his parents took him to the beach in a hot summer day,he fell in love with the blue sea at the first sight.Now,he and his wife live in Ishigaki ,a tropical island in the south of Japan.What a big difference!There were a lot of photos and pictures hanging on the wall on Yaima.There was one caught my eyes.It was in Chinese."玉不琢不成器,人不學不成行".It means a gem cannot be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials."It was a letter from my mother.She past away years ago.She never gave up learning in her life." I think this proverb is Captain Hiroshi's life philosophy,too.
His wife and all his family supported his dream.One time,Captain Hiroshi told me that he wanted to sail around the world many years ago,but at that time kids were still little and Mrs. Maeda did not agree with him."My wife is a TOUGH woman! I worked hard for my family.Last year ,I helped doing a lot of housework ,washing dishes,cooking breakfast for my wife everyday.Try to be a good husband.Then one day,my wife agreed that I could go and make my dream come true.It was a MIRACLE!!!" All of Captain's family supported his dream.Yuuki,the youngest son of Captain,helps him sailing and doing the computer stuff in this two years trip and also learns sailing skills and the way of life from his father and the real world. I think Captain,Hiroshi san ,is a lucky man with a lot of love in his life.
